My Kind Of Organizations
Inclusion in this section does not imply or assume that these
organizations agree with my views. I've found that their goals and positions
on issues are such that I support them - wholeheartedly.
- SPLC The
Southern Poverty Law Center
- If you visit only one site from this list, this
should be the one. Morris Dees and the Law Center have accomplished
remarkable things in combating hatred and violence. Dees has been at the
top of some hate lists and still he keeps going, having won lawsuits
against the Klan and Tom Metzger. We would all be diminshed without Dees
and his work.
- ACLU
The American Civil Liberties Union
- Yeah, yeah, I know - they go around defending Communists (are there
any around anymore?) and other unsavory elements and unpopular causes -
they also defend you and me and our right to call the ACLU anything we
want. I call them pretty valuable.
- AI Amnesty
International
- If Pat Robertson and Pat Buchanan and their minions and cohorts have
their way, AI will have ever-increasing reason to list the U. S. as a
human rights violator of the first magnitude.
- AU Americans
United for Separation of Church and State
- They've been around some fifty years, and in spite of what Pat
Robertson and Pat Buchanan say, there always has been a wall between
government and faith. May there always remain one.
- IFAS The
Institute for First Amendment Studies
- An excellent resource for information on the Constitution, something
we'd all do well to read and understand.
- Know
your Enemy
- An excellent page for finding out about organizations and individuals
who are apparently unwilling or unable to understand the United States
Constitution and its precepts. The enemies listed here are my enemies
too.
- NARAL
The National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League
- Just what the name says. Unfortunately, the action has lately been
too often defensive.
- NCSE The
National Center for Science Education
- Check out their page. By now you should know that I'm never gonna
support teaching "Creationism" or "Creation Science"
(an oxymoron if I ever heard one) in public schools - not as science,
anyway, because it's based on religious assumptions, not science.
- NOW The National
Organization for Women
- In spite of popular misconceptions, NOW promotes human rights across
the spectrum.
- PEARL
National Committee for Public Education and Religious Liberty
- Under the leadership of Executive Director Lisa Thurau-Gray, PEARL is
a proactive and determined organization working to keep public schools
free from sectarian influence. Of all the groups listed here, none are
more worthy. I suggest you check out their home page and join. At least
send 'em some money - they do the finest kind of work.
- PFAW People for
the American Way
- This group would more accurately be called "People for the Way
America Could and Should Be."
- PP
Planned Parenthood Federation of America
- No, Margaret Sanger didn't go around forcing abortions on women, and
she didn't call for the murder of "undesirables" in society
under the guise of eugenics. She was instrumental in ending the brutal
and repressive Comstock Laws, and demanded that women be given the right
to information about and control of reproductive decisions.
- PT
Project Tocsin
- Based in Sacramento, California, this organization does an excellent
job of monitoring reactionary tactics and actions, and is a distinct
pain in certain parts of the body politic of the religious right.
- SIECUS
The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States
- An excellent resource for sex education material and resources that
are accurate, current and non-judgmental.
